Your life is only as good as how much good you demand from it

It’s a mild winter day sometime in February and Mark and I are driving down a quiet Arizona highway.  Ever since selling our house and taking to life on the road, our quest for “the next thing” had kicked in to high gear.  For years we’d been craving a change, a new chapter, a new challenge but so far nothing had struck us…we’d only felt more and more lost.  So we drive.  To new regions, new towns and new climates.  In every town we discuss at length “Would we live here?” “Why?” “Why not?” “Would we relocate our business or do something entirely new?”  “How?”  “Can we afford it?”  “Is it worth the risk?”  But on this one particular day, as we wound thru the forest, feeling tired and somewhat hopeless, the conversation changed.  In a solemn and serious tone Mark uttered the words “Maybe we’ve peaked.” As in, our best years are behind us.

At first I thought he was joking, but he wasn’t.  Could that be possible?  I refused to believe it.  Absolutely, positively…REFUSED.

My goal in life, from that point forward would be to prove Mark wrong.  Because I believe, truly believe, that great things always lie ahead if you are bold enough to go after them.  If you accept a life of mediocrity, how can you expect anything different?  Instead, demand greatness from yourself.  Believe that you are worthy and capable of great things and stop at nothing less.

Your life is only as good as how much good you demand from it.  You get what you give.  The more you dwell on the past or complain about the present, the less you have to give to creating the future of your dreams.  But don’t forget to practice gratitude for all the good things you already have.  If you have clean air to breath, clean water to drink, food to eat and a roof over you’re head, you already have a lot of good in your life to be grateful for.  If you don’t know how to practice gratitude you’ll never know how to truly appreciate all the great things when you get them.

So stop accepting all the things that bring you down and focus all your energy on that which lifts you up and makes you smile.  You deserve good things and good things will come to you if you believe that.
